MENSYOGA is a community of Men who enjoy the benefits of yoga in a relaxed friendly environment
MENSYOGA is not simply a yoga studio, it is a community of men that come together each week to practice and experience the benefits of yoga no matter what their skill level. Students are welcome to share a meal after class and to get to know each other. Periodically we will offer mindfulness and other workshops as well as partnering with other men’s yoga communities from around the world.
Many men, particularly those new to yoga, find the modern-day yoga studios with 70% women, some-what intimidating. MENSYOGA provides a comfortable safe and non-intimating environment to grunt and sweat into yoga poses best suited for male bodies.
Our all male teachers understand the male body and use low impact yoga poses suited to men. We modify yoga poses to cater for beginners, intermediate and advanced students.
We have one objective – to encourage more men, no matter their shape, size or age to get on the Yoga mat.
Having undertaken several men’s only yoga retreats with London based Yoga4men, David took his 10-year yoga practice to the next step and completed his 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Thailand with Johnny Nasello. David returned to Australia passionate for more men to step onto the mat. After teaching a few classes to male friends and seeing the benefits, MENSYOGA was born.
10 reasons why men should do yoga
The benefits of yoga for men are many. Besides helping you boost your performance in the bedroom, yoga variations will not just improve your flexibility but also your athletic ability and give you mental clarity. Even the most basic yoga poses will help you get the flexibility and strength every man needs. So even if you’re a guy who’s sceptical about yoga, here are some hard-to-ignore benefits you can gain from incorporating yoga in your daily life.
Helps build muscles
Yoga teaches you that lifting those heavy weights isn’t the only way for you to build and sculpt those muscles. In fact, yoga uses your body weight and resistance to build lean muscles. Along with building the muscles, yoga helps regulate the blood flow which in turn helps muscles build faster.
Research says that doing only 20 minutes of yoga daily helps people get more focused and take better decisions about issues. It also helps improve memory retention along with increased energy. 20 minutes can give a lot of benefits.
Pushes your limits
So far, men haven’t gotten into yoga because of one reason, that their ego might get bruised because of not being able to do or achieve certain yoga poses. One of the reasons that yoga will help men is because it actually makes them reach their maximum potential and push all the boundaries that they’ve created in their heads. Along with pushing their own limits, yoga is also a lot of fun as it is one of the most challenging form of exercise. One of the benefits of yoga is that it teaches you to challenge yourself without being overly aggressive; but rather have a calm attitude.
Is a stress reliever
Yoga itself is meditative in nature, hence making it a stress relieving medium for many. Doing yoga helps a person understand the way his breathing works and also helps the nervous system in finding balance and flexibility within itself. Yoga trains your mind to be calm in situations where you can’t be anything but stressed. It acts as a supplement which you can take in at any point without any side effects whatsoever. Yes, some yoga poses are difficult to do and one can’t possibly be calm or stress free when your legs are behind your head but, that is exactly what yoga is trying to convey. That no matter how uncomfortable the situation, staying calm will help you get the solution.
Helps improve sex life
Yoga helps your concentration and a more focused mind is key to having a better sexual experience. It helps you channel all the sexual energy better towards your partner. Not only does it help in channelling all that sexual energy better, doing yoga also helps you control premature ejaculation, thus making the sex longer and more pleasurable for both. Basically, yoga helps men boost their sexual experience along with increased body awareness.
Alleviates pain and injuries
Working out or straining your body throughout the day at work can cause a lot of injuries. Yoga can help prevent those injuries in numerous ways. Yoga improves flexibility and gives you better awareness of your body, so you can recognize subtle issues, or pain and fix it quickly. One of the major benefits of yoga is that it efficiently opens up your body and stretches out your muscles, which ultimately helps your body to be prone to doing all the yoga poses flawlessly, leaving you uninjured. Yoga does help you push your limits, but it also demands you to not do anything that is probably way beyond your physical limit.
Helps improve overall health
Yoga is a natural remedy which is best to deal with anything be it as minor as a cold or as major as chronic back pain. Among the other benefits of yoga for men is that it also helps the immune system. Men going through stressful situations usually wind up affected by stomach aches, poor bowel movements or and other digestive issues. Certain yoga poses encourage food digestion, getting rid of bowel troubles and also helps in better nutrition absorption thus leading to having more energy. Yoga also helps in building up the defence system of the person making them immune to diseases or things like flu.
Helps you sleep better
A lot of times we can’t sleep in the night because we are just simply stressed about something which has led to having sleepless nights. Yoga not only helps men deal with the physical problems, but it helps them with mental issues as well. It helps them deal with problems such as anxiety, depression or even insomnia. Doing yoga relieves all the stress and tension in the body and mind both, leading the person to feel lighter and hence the person sleeps better.
Yoga helps in weight loss
According to research, men who did yoga and breathing exercises on a daily basis lost four pounds in one week. Yoga can be more effective than you think. Yoga can help you shed those extra pounds without having to lift a single dumbbell. Deep abdominal breathing is a major part of yoga, it activates the parasympathetic nervous system and lowers levels of cortisol, a hormone that forces your body to hold on to belly fat. Men should do yoga to lose all that weight that they despise.
Increases your flexibility

The right combination of strength and mobility is key to get that flexible yoga body. It doesn’t matter if you’re 20 or 50, yoga equally helps each one to achieve that level of fitness.
