MENSYOGA is a community of Men who enjoy the benefits of yoga in a relaxed friendly environment


The physical practice of yoga was created in India by men for men and was at first forbidden for women. It was instead exclusively for higher cast males and young warriors. Ashtanga yoga in particular is believed to be a practice developed by men to train young soldiers in preparation for war. Building the strong bodies and minds of men was one of the original purposes of yoga.

In the 1930’s the first female was accepted to study yoga. Later she and others took Yoga to the US teaching celebrities, politicians and commercialised the practice. Popular with females Yoga was quickly adopted as a practice for women.

In recent years men have awoken to the original benefits and intent of yoga with on average 30% of students being men.  This is increasing steadily with men understanding the physical and mental benefits of an hour on the mat.


Since practising with MENSYOGA, I have noticed an improvement in my flexibility, I feel less stressed and I’m sleeping better too! It compliments my gym training nicely and it’s just as challenging!

We have one objective – to encourage more men, no matter their shape, size or age to get on the Yoga mat.

Having undertaken several men’s only yoga retreats with London based Yoga4men, David took his 10-year yoga practice to the next step and completed his 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Thailand with Johnny Nasello. David returned to Australia passionate for more men to step onto the mat. After teaching a few classes to male friends and seeing the benefits, MENSYOGA was born.
